General DWC Questions / Upgrading to USB connection

Is it possible to upgrade an older DWC from a parallel port connection to a USB? What is the process/costs(ball park) involved?

Introductions / Greeting from Colorful Colorado

I have been looking for a CNC machine for quite some time. If the machine was displayed on the internet, the chances are that I look at it. I am not an impulse buyer, and not knowing anything about a CNC I decided to take my time, so after meticulously consideration I decided to purchase a DWC unit. Out of all the units I looked, studied and considered, the DWC was the better built for the money.

Plus, I noticed that it offered something very valuable that other manufacturers unfortunately lacked - CUSTOMER SERVICE.  I called and e-mailed Burl with questions and he was responsive and willing to help. I called Laney a number of times with questions (even on the eve of hurricane Irma while he was going through preparations) he was always willing and patiently  answer my questions. I appreciate all the information on this forum.

My unit is arriving next week and I am like a kid waiting on a new toy. :)
General DWC Questions / Dust Collection
« Last post by Ronald W on August 24, 2017, 04:16:39 PM »
I am having difficulty with dust collection with my DWC. Not only am I constantly augmenting dust collection with secondary shop vac, but I have destroyed several dust skirts, as they get hung in the spinning router bit and get ripped off the "shoe". I have tried cutting vertical slits in the plastic skirt, but they still manage to get caught on the bit at some point. I would prefer the brush type dust shoes I have seen on other machines, with a larger collection hose. Any suggestions? I'm sure these issues are born of my inexperience, but I fear damage to the router as well as frequent purchases of replacement skirts.

General DWC Questions / Attaching Spoil Board to DWC
« Last post by Ronald W on August 24, 2017, 04:08:57 PM »
I want to drill countersunk holes to bolt 3/4" mdf to t-track on bed of DWC using Aspire. Has anyone already designed this so I don't spin my wheels trying to accomplish what has already been solved? I want to attach three or four bolts per track. My uncertainty is based on placing the holes correctly directly over the t-track.

I'm excited to begin this adventure and I'll be picking up my unit this Friday!

I'm retired Military and now working as a self employed Wood Turner in Missouri. I've been looking at CNCs for quite some time now.
General Discussion / I just replaced my table with a new piece of slatwall
« Last post by James Bu on August 15, 2017, 03:02:42 PM »

I ordered this slat wall from Mills Distibruting.  It appears to be a dense / higher quality slatwall.  I am please with the quality and I have spent a full day tuning the machine. The chart below illustrates the final "Z" axis elevations at various locations:

Has anyone been able to achieve tighter tolerances?  If so, how?
